Before joining USC’s Marshall School of Business in 2006, Peer served on the faculty of the Smith School of Business at Queen's University, Ontario, Canada. Peer has been a visiting professor at the University of Zurich and the Ludwig Maximilian University, Munich. He is a former Fellow of the Judge Business School of the University of Cambridge. Peer is also a former Chair of USC Marshall’s Department of Management and Organization.

He has been invited to speak at universities around the world. He is a former Associate Editor for the Academy of Management Review and former Senior Editor for Organization Science and has served as Division Chair of the Academy of Management’s Organization and Management Theory (OMT) Division. He has also been serving on the board of directors of the USC Credit Union since 2010.

Peer has won numerous awards for his research, teaching, and mentorship, including the Western Academy of Management’s 2010 Ascendant Scholar Award, the 2015 Golden Apple Teaching Award for the Marshall MBA Core, a 2015 Mellon Mentoring Award from the University of California, and the 2020 Marshall Faculty Award for Ph.D. Mentoring from the Marshall School of Business.

Peer holds a joint Ph.D. in Management & Organization and Sociology from Northwestern University, an MA from the University of Hamburg, and a Diploma in American Studies from Smith College, Massachusetts.

Peer is a citizen of the United States and Germany. He is married with two kids and lives in South Pasadena, California.
